10 Cricut Joy Vinyl Decal Ideas That You Can Sell

Check out my brand new bundle for everything you need to get your Cricut business up and running.

The Cricut Joy wasn’t around when I first got my Cricut, so I started with an Explore Air 2, but I know these days that a lot of people, when they first get introduced to Cricut, start with a Joy to see if they like it as it’s the cheapest option so it’s not as much of an investment, but also because it’s small and doesn’t take up too much space.

So because of that, I decided to put together a list of 10 decal ideas that you can sell using your Cricut Joy if you want to get started with a Vinyl Business.

So as I mentioned, I don’t have a Joy, and in my Cricut Machine comparison video, I did say I didn’t think it was the right machine to buy if you know for sure you want to start selling decals. And I do still kind of stand by that. But I did think that partially because of the specific size of the Joy, and that you had to buy either Cricut branded vinyl which tends to be expensive and isn’t great quality, or because you would have to cut down larger rolls of vinyl which can take a lot of time.

However, that has now changed since I did that video…

First… Where To Buy The Vinyl

So there are a few Vinyl companies making rolls in the exact right size now. Junique Vinyls in the UK do Joy size Oracal 651 sheets and rolls for a very good price.

Also GM Crafts are soon going to be bringing out their own Crafty vinyl, which works like Smart Vinyl, and they do those in a smaller Joy size as well as 13”, although it is quite expensive so you would probably need to bulk buy to get good discounts on that.

Then in Canada there is Stick it Vinyl, although they only have a few colours at the moment.

And in Australia there is SkatKatz, who have some great colour options.

For all of you US crafters though, I’m sorry, I’ve looked at so many businesses and I can’t find any that cut to Joy size, but I’m convinced there must be one out there!! So please let me know in the comments if you find one.

But for you, there are constantly deals on Cricut Smart Vinyl anyway which is better quality than their standard vinyl and lets you cut longer projects, and I’ve heard you can get it even cheaper at Hobby Lobby too so do just lookout for deals.

…as there are lots on there and I’m sure Joy size rolls will become more common as other suppliers realise what their competitors are offering.

So now there are more options available, and you can get your material costs down, if you already own a Joy I think it’s a great thing to use to start selling adhesive vinyl decals with. Obviously, there are a lot of other things you can do with it anyway; it’s great for cards, smaller iron-on decals, and card gift tags etc, but in this post I thought I would just give you a few ideas for adhesive vinyls in particular.

So you do have to obviously bear in mind that you can only cut up to 5” high, but there are still lots of things you can do. So…

Phone Case Stickers

These are a quick and affordable way for customers to decorate their own phones if they already have a blank case, and you can either do a wrap type design that is the shape of their specific phone, and then all they have to do is match up the corners and stick, or to make it a bit easier, just do a quote or smaller design they can just add to wherever they want on the case.

Bottle names

These still seem to be going strong, especially as I think people like to switch them out for different styles and colours every now and again, so make sure you’re paying attention to what is trending out there at the moment and that you’re offering customers various different designs to choose from.

Wrap Around Cup Decals

So whether it’s a Starbucks cup, or a glass tumbler, as long as you get the dimensions right, you can make it super easy for your customers to decorate their own drinkware for themselves or to give as gifts. Obviously, just make them aware of what they need to do to care for their items once the vinyl is applied.

Banner Decals

For very long banners you would need smart vinyl I think, but even shorter banners would be a great option for anyone throwing a party or wanting to make their own long signs. These are also great for the long vertical door signs that are very popular at Halloween and Christmas too.

Plant Pot or Pen Pot Decals

These could be to add to pots as plant labels, to give to teachers as gifts or for kids or adults to decorate their workspace. Just a super cheap way for people to give gifts basically, especially if they have lots to give.

Jar Labels

I think Jar labels are still a great idea because I think even though they are fairly easy to buy in shops now, those ones tend to come in big packs with quite generic names, so if you can get a bit more specific and offer labels like ‘corn flour’ and ‘spelt flour’ and ‘gluten-free flour’ for example, you can target people who can’t get their needs met with those shop-bought ones.

And then once you find those people, if you can make lots of matching ones in the same font and design then you can sell a tonne at the same time.

Sticker Sheets

You can’t do print and cut with a Joy so you can’t make multiple colour stickers unless you find a work around, but you can do small sticker sheets with single colour vinyl by just creating shapes or words. And these are great for kids, or for people who journal for example.

Baubles

Custom baubles can be really expensive so if you offer customers the chance to make their own with decals, not only will it save them money but it will give them a fun festive activity to do with their family this holiday season. They can also be made for lots of different occasions and in lots of different styles. I have some bauble SVGs for sale on Design Bundles if you need some designs to use. Check out a few of them below…

Also check out my Christmas Decals To Sell post for even more festive decal ideas…

Small Wall Decals (spots etc)

These are super easy to make, and so easy for customers to apply as a quick decor fix.

You may want to use removable vinyl for this, especially for people who are renting and need to be able to take them off easily when they move.

Laptop Decals

And then my last idea, is laptop decals… obviously you can’t do full on laptop skins, but little decals for the bottom corner or the front cover are really popular and again are something people can switch out every now and again for different quotes and colours.

I’m not sure if removable or permanent is better for those though so do your research to make sure before selling.

So those are my main ideas, I’m sure you can come up with lots more.

I did also check out the Joy app which looks like it makes it even easier to design and cut things straight from your phone and tablet, so you can be creating items quickly to sell. They also have a tonne of ideas you can browse, or use if you have Cricut access, but always just double-check the license on them before selling anything.

And if this has you convinced, I now have a Cricut Business for Beginners bundle that includes everything you need to get you started. Check it out below…

I hope you found that helpful, let me know in the comments if you have a Joy and what your favourite thing to make with it is! And if you have any other good decal ideas for it.

Pin it for later…
