Creative Ways To Promote Your Small Business
Because I tend to find photos of just decals by themselves a bit boring, I don’t really share those. I always like to mock mine up on actual items, and I often share customer photos (with approval of course). But it can get a bit monotonous showing similar types of photos over and over again, and it doesn’t always make you stand out from competitors, so here are just a few ideas of other things you can do on social media, your website, or blog, or even share elsewhere to promote to and attract new customers and show off your products.
This isn’t just specific to vinyl decals, most of these will fit pretty well no matter what kind of item you are trying to sell.

Create some ‘educational’ content within your niche…
This is key for helping with SEO if you have a blog or website in particular, but even on social media it can make sure the right people are finding you. It can either be directly involving your products, so for example, if you sell organisational labels, you could do some step by step pictures or a video of how to organise your cupboards using decals.
Or, it might not involve your products directly but just be within your niche… so if you sell positive mirror decals, you could do a post about the benefits of meditating and just mention your decals somewhere in there.
Or, say you sell removable wall decals, you could do a top 10 things for decorating a rental property, and add your wall decals as 1 of that top 10.
There are so many ways you can do this, you just need to think about what your potential customers might like to read, and then preferably create content where you already know about the subject or that is easy to research.
Also then once it’s posted you can ask customers to share their tips as well to get further engagement and reach.
Promote other businesses in your niche and/or create a gift guide…
Another kind of content you can do is a gift guide using other small businesses in your niche, but who aren’t direct competitors. If you sell decals, you could perhaps do all kinds of gifts that your decals could be added to, or just share items that are related in some way and that you know your customers will like.
Although you don’t actually have to do a whole guide, just sharing other businesses on your social media feeds is a great way to get cross promotion if they then re-share your post too.
As a plus, engaging with more businesses could then potentially lead to a collaboration of some sort as well, which could then lead to further promotional opportunities. So a win-win all round!
Do an application video, step by step photos or ‘how it’s made ‘
So for decals specifically, this has the added value of not only teaching your potential customers something, but showing them what a decal is and how it will look on a final product.
And it’s a triple threat because you can then also use the content as instructions for future customers on how to apply their decal, as well as using pictures of the finished item as product photos or future social media posts.
If it’s not decals you sell, just showing how something is made gives it added value and can back up the quality of what it is you’re selling. This is especially great to show anyone who ever complains about small business pricing, and you don’t even have to show your face or use your voice if you don’t want to, you can do an overhead camera with subtitles if you prefer.
Behind the scenes
So this is kind of similar, but showing customers your workspace, or how you package an item or anything else that goes into the running of your business is effective as it shows them the human behind the brand and gives them another reason to support your business.
I just personally love to see behind the scenes stuff and I will often buy from brands who I follow on instagram or tiktok and know a bit more about.
Day in the life…
And if you really want to go all out, then how about doing a whole day in the life, like I have previously, to show exactly what goes into running your business, but also anything else you have to juggle in order to keep it going. It can be as basic as a few pictures throughout the day on Instagram stories or a full on long video for Youtube or even a live on Facebook.
Share a review with pictures or video…
As I said, I like to share pictures from my customers, but it’s also great if you can get a review in there too. Just write it up on Canva and share it alongside the photo, or make a little video with various reviews on there. This is a great way of showing social proof and that lots of others are already buying and enjoying your product.

Create a members club/newsletter with discounts
This does require a little bit more work, but setting up either a newsletter or a Facebook group for existing or potential customers is a great way to keep reminding them that you exist, show them your latest products and give them little rewards like discount codes or freebies for sticking with you.
I would recommend using somewhere like Mailchimp or ConvertKit to set up an email list, and then it sends automatic emails to new sign-ups so you don’t have to.
Create a challenge…
By creating a challenge for your existing customers, this not only gives you more content to share that you don’t have to create yourself but if they then share it on their profile with you tagged in it, it gets even more eyes on your business.
This may not work for all niches, but say for instance, if you sell kids room decals… you could ask parents to submit drawings from their children of a character, and the winning character will get made into a decal and sent out for free. That was just a random idea, inspired by ikea, but I’m sure you can think of something that your customers would love and would take part in if there is a good enough reward at the end.
I personally think something which requires a little bit of effort is probably better than just a tag and share competition, then you are more likely to weed out the people who will enter and then not look at your profile ever again.
Sponsor a team/give back
There are lots of ways this can be done. So sponsoring a local team or something else is a great way to promote yourself if you mostly sell locally, or say you create a lot of decals for pet owners, then giving a portion of your profits to a dog rescue centre means that customers may be more inclined to buy from you, but it also means that your business will probably be shared by the rescue centre which will then be seen by lots of other potential customers.
And obviously it feels super good to be able to give back and support others anyway, whether it’s for promotion or not!
…but don’t get overwhelmed!
I know all of this does take a lot of work of course, and don’t feel like you need to do it all, maybe just try out one or two things.
This is all stuff I have to work more on with my decal business admittedly, I probably struggle with the marketing side of things the most because I get so much traffic from Etsy already. But I know I can’t rely on it forever so this is definitely up there on my list of things I need to improve!
